Miele now adds connectivity to their washing machines. It’s convenient to receive a notification when your laundry is done, but there are many more possibilities when connecting the washing machine to external data sources. Washing machines and dryers consume a lot of energy. After a tumultuous period, the energy market has produced new business models, such as dynamic pricing. By combining both ways of thinking, you can wash and dry your clothes at the time of day when energy is practically free (or you might even get paid for it).

You can also apply this thinking to objects. Just imagine what would happen if your coffee cup had connectivity. It could tell you when it’s empty and hasn’t been filled for a while.
